We as a People have many names but which name best represents us. Most of us identify with the name Black, a name affectionately given during the 60’s and 70’s Black power movements. This name symbolized strength, power and Unity but today many of our People are beginning to adapt other names such as Akebulan, African American, Nubian and other titles but why do we avoid the name African? It seems we have moved so far away from identifying ourselves with being African. Do you feel our Ancestral bloodline is an apparent reason to wear the African title. We need one name to identify us as a People globally. Which name do you feel represents us and why?

Except Africans dislike and disrespect us. They look down on us because whites look down on us and they feel they are better than we are. In college, they stay to themselves have nothing to do with us although they powder their faces with five shades lighter than their skin color. It works both ways. A Senegalese woman told me she’s disliked in school, because they “sold us”. I know I have African origins, but its a huge continent, so unlike any other African who comes here, who knows their origins; I do not.
This is what I know. Originally my people came from somewhere in Africa. They were powerful, strong and determined because they made it on the slave ship, they made it through slavery, and we are making it through racism and self-hated. I originate from powerfully strong survivors. How do you label that?

I love our African brothers and sisters because they are part of me and I part of them, but, the truth is we are very unalike. If we can accept that we can find the love that unites a people. To my way of thinking, we, the descendants of slaves from Africa are African American. We, this group are a people unlike Africans, Haitians, Jamaicans, or any other of our brothers and sisters. We have been mistreated and denied like no other group in history. We are denied even by our African brothers and sisters because they have been Europeanized. I believe some other races ( some ever our brothers and sisters) have adopted the prejudice, racism, bias and cowardist that has been expressed by many white people for centuries. Those attitudes are due to extreme deficiencies that they see in themselves. Those try to make others feel less than because they themselves feel less than. That has made it easy for those to treat us so appallingly. Everything that we were was stolen from us was never to be recovered. There is no embrace from our African brothers and sisters, this is true. African Americans were dropped on the moon with no oxygen mask and people have wonder why, why, we could not find our way to freedom for 300 some odd years. Ha.
In spite of not knowing who we are or where we came from and having to fight for our rights as human beings, we refuse to be defeated in any matter. Nobody ever gave us anything we did not deserve. Thank God for those white people who had enough that they loved about themselves to deflect that part that helped us to hope and freedom. However many slaves there were and however many slaves they are, no one group was robbed of their heritage except African Americans. Instead of admiring us for our greatness and fortitude, those find the hatred for themselves and deflect it onto African Americans.
The government has paid many groups back for internment and put in place ways to entice people for other countries with no thought to what is owed African Americans for 300 years plus of labor.
For my part, I am still waiting for my 40 acres and my mule. it was only a stipend anyway. Today, however, I would consider the government paying for a full genealogy, Ancestry and Family tree research for each and every African American who requests one a step in the right direction. Our hearts will not be silent until there is some consideration for what was done us. That is what I believe.

Initially I liked the title descendants of american slaves but the more I thought about it we were slaves to white people. That was our title from them, we shouldn’t embrace that. We are survivors .African survivors.

I honestly think we should call ourselves humans, and remove all this talk of whites, black, aisian, Latino, and etc.Race doesn’t exist, just like colors don’t, they’re just different ways we perceive light in this world, and to me something as insignificant as light perception shouldn’t be how we interpret ourselves. I’m me and that’s who I’ll be, but my race is forever human

I believe that we as a people should be able to call our selves what we truly are God’s and godess. Sure black and Africans can be easier to identify each other but the fact that we have an active pineal gland that allows us to have super human abilities should be enough reasons to see who we are. We have be crucified and subjected to the worse conditions know to the human race. From LA to Baltimore to Sudan and West Papua. But as God’s we must rise to greatness and master this universe once again. So my answer is we should identify each other as God’s but black is the universal word for opposition.

As the Holy Bible tells us we are God’s chosen people in these Americas which would make us the descendant of the Israelites which fled into Africa to keep from being slaughtered. And till we start keeping God’s laws we will continue to catch hell. So what ever we as black people decide to call ourselves we better get in line with the most highs [God’s] laws. because these white people know who you are, and the plan is to DETROY US. My church is The Israel Of God in Chicago. BRO HENRY BUIE teaches and reads only what “Thus Saith The Lord.” He does a month of black history in February, and reads from the King James Bible to show that we are God’s chosen / people. All of mankind are Africans. Culturally we are African Americans as we like the American Indian have culture that started in America. All pthers are cultural immigrants Many blacks were in America when English settlers arrived just like the Aboriginals of Australia. Like it or not that is also part of the history of many and we will not walk away from that history to appease those that make false complete claim to America.

I am from AFRICA (Cameroon) I have been leaving in Switzerland since 17 years.
I think we schould indentify ourselfs as africans because AFRICA is first of all a birth place of all human being and as we all know the history the earth was full of Africans with Black skin color before God divided in 4 continents. We had survived a lot civilisations Greeks, roman ect.and now the New World Order of white supremecy. We will aslo survive that civilisation we are in now.
We as africans we are the inddigenous people of the earth. And we will rule again like our ancestors did. I will love to say to my borthers and sisters in USA Haiti, Jamaica, south-America and elsewehre in the world that I love you so much and I hope will be proud of ourselfs again as our queens and kings were.
